Allie: Showing Your Work When There’s Nothing to Show

While Linda and I were in New Orleans, we met a witty and charismatic artist in the French Quarter, named Oscar. We each bought pins from his wonderful collection that we gave to relatives.

In the days following the disaster, just two and half weeks after our visit, we kept asking each other, "I wonder how Oscar is, do you think he got out?" Oscar's face and the faces of many New Orleaneans were fresh in our memories.

Through a bizarre twist of fate, Linda came upon more of his work at her sister's home. She was certain it was his handiwork. When she flipped the piece over, sure enough it read, "Oscar 2002." The pin was still attached to a business card with Oscar's email!

We have since contacted Oscar who successfully escaped New Orleans, but only barely, and is now living in Atlanta. Oscar lost his home and neighborhood. But his optimistic outlook continues and his business in now online.

Oscar has agreed to offer a portion of his profits to help other victims of Hurricane Katrina. Please know that a purchase of one of his gorgeous pins will truly help him and his family.

Please help us by visiting
Oscar's site at oscarofneworleans.com

Thank you!

Allie
