Looking for a few
Good Testers!

The Gifted Development Center is seeking to
hire
additional examiners.

We are looking for qualified individuals who are experienced in administering individual IQ tests (e.g., Wechsler and Stanford-Binet scales). We expect our testers to also be experienced with gifted children and their families, to share our passion for this population and be able to develop rapport with young gifted children.

Bobbie Gilman, our Director of Staff Development, describes the attributes of our staff (and what we would look for in a candidate) in her book, Empowering Gifted Minds: Educational Advocacy that Works.

“Few experiences are more fascinating to me than testing a gifted child. From the first moments of meeting the child, a picture of that child’s pattern of abilities and, perhaps, relative weaknesses, is becoming apparent. … The sessions are usually very engaging for these children; the inherent challenge of the tests often eclipses what they experience at school. … But for me, amidst the enjoyment of getting to know them, the pieces of a puzzle are being put into place and the final puzzle seems always to be unique from all of the others that I have watched coalesce.

… A center or group practice specializing in assessment of the gifted is more likely to draw professionals who will delight in the special qualities these children possess: their interests, humor, and characteristic reasoning. They will understand when the little girl who misses an item begins to cry because she’s used to getting everything right at school. They will be willing to spend considerable time supporting these children and answering any questions they are allowed to answer during test administration. … The tester’s enjoyment of these children and comfort with high levels of sensitivity, reflectivity, perfectionism, and curiosity, makes for a more comfortable session for the child.” (pp. 67, 74-75)

We hold extremely high standards of report writing for all of our staff. All reports go through a rigorous review process; therefore, it will also be necessary for candidates to generate well-written reports. Sample reports, with all identifying information removed, should be submitted with resumes. It wouldn’t hurt to be able to read upside-down, as well!

Becoming a tester at the Gifted Development Center requires extensive experience with gifted children and coursework in Cognitive Assessment. In this course, you learn the ethics of the profession; the strengths and weaknesses and uses of various individual IQ tests; and have the opportunity to administer, score and interpret several individual IQ tests under supervision, as well as write interpretive reports. This course is only available to students enrolled in school psychology, professional psychology, clinical psychology, neuropsychology or counseling psychology programs. Please send a cover letter indicating your experience with gifted children and a transcript of your course on Cognitive Assessment.

If this description fits you, please contact the Gifted Development Center at gifted@gifteddevelopment.com or call 1-888-GIFTED1, or 303-837-8378. Send cover letter responding to these requisites, resume, and a sample report to:
