Volume 4 (1992): The Self. Guest Editor: Elizabeth Maxwell. This issue looks at counseling processes through both theory and pragmatics. Dabrowski’s emotional development theory is seen to mesh with Roberto Assagioli’s holistic counseling model (Psychosynthesis) to provide a growth model of great depth and usefulness. The Self is addressed conceptually and recognized as the real guide in growth work. On the one hand, suffering is posited as integral to psychospiritual advancement, while, on the other, the need for creativity to be expressed and acknowledged as part of mental health is demonstrated through a research project. The effects of early recognition and intervention in gifted lives are analyzed. The life of Etty Hillesum is revisited. Finally, quantum theory as applied to the self by Dana Zohar is evaluated.
